Another Neocon puppet bites the dust: first orange, and now rose!

The Neocon-engineered “blitzkriegs” don’t seem to be working very well these days: after the fiasco of the Olmert/Saniora invasion of South Lebanon back in July 2006, now it’s the turn of the puppet government of Georgia- I think they were called the “Rose revolutionaries” by Wolfowitz & Co just like Lebanon’s March 14 clowns were labeled “Orange” a testimony to the Pharisees’ enduring love of color-coded PR horseshit.

Georgia is now deservingly being licked by Russia…while Bush, Cheney and the Israel amen corner stand by and “express their heartfelt sympathy to the Georgian government”: with Neocon friends like these, who needs Russian enemies?

Russian ambassador Churkin summed up the situation pretty neatly yesterday:

It’s a shame what Bush and the Neocon are doing these days: trying to force their despicable amnesty law (a.k.a. “the immigration bill”) on a pliable Congress…

The usual Pro-Israel propagandists such as David Brooks of The New York Times think that those who oppose the president’s inequitable immigration bill are either “rightwing bigots” or “illiterate Christian peasants”. Pick your favorite liberal slur…
Yeah sure comrade David-ovich: nationalism is always “smart” and dandy as long as it’s Hebrew nationalism…otherwise it’s just despicable gentile “bigotry”!

Interestingly, these pro-Israel traitors in the White House and the mainstream media happen to have the support of Washington-based Wahhabi groups such as CAIR and other Al-Qaeda-friendly cum Saudi-funded terrorist outlets…
Why you may ask?

For a very simple reason: Al-Qaeda and the Israeli government both want to destroy our country by keeping our borders wide open to “multicultural” (read: non Western) settlers from Judea, Arabia and Pakistan. They want to dismantle everything that’s sacred in our culture and change the face of our nation- all in the name of “liberalism” and other totalitarian Neo-Marxist and/or Islamist doctrines.

This tyrannical bill is due to come on the senate floor in the coming days.

The End of Debaathification? Too Little Too Late!

The pro-Iranian terrorist government of Iraq (installed by George W. Bush with your money and the lives of innocent American kids) has just released a draft bill that should allow “former members of Saddam Hussein's Baath party to return to government jobs and join the military”.

A small move in the right direction…marketed at a “major breakthrough” by our gullible mainstream media.

But it’s too little.

And too late anyway.

Sunni Arabs make up 35% of the population (not 20%), they are the majority in 50% of Iraq’s cities and villages… and they had ruled the country since times immemorial.

To think they’ll “accept their new fate” in exchange for 2 or 3 extra ministries or small bribes for their “tribal leaders” only shows the ineptitude of America’s current foreign policy “elite”.

Yet the symbolism is quite strong: back in April 2003, the “De-Baathification” act was actually the first law passed in fanfare by Bush’s provisional authority.

Before the US invasion, the ruling Baath party was the only secular political force in the whole Middle-East: the Baath was founded in the early 1940s by professor Michel Aflak, a French-educated center-left philosopher.

Taking their inspiration from 18th century Enlightenment philosophy, the Baathists had built Arab nationalism as a deliberately cosmopolitan ideology based solely on language, literature and culture NOT genes, thus rejecting the reactionary racist ideas adopted by Iranian and Israeli nationalists.

Read any “Arab nationalist” textbook and you’ll see that many of the patriotic heroes they celebrate are foreign-born underdogs: ‘Antar and Bilal were black slaves of Ethiopian descent, Salman was a wandering Syrian monk of Iranian origin, Al Akhtal was a humble Christian bard, Saladin’s parents were poor Kurdish peasants…etc.

You’ll never find such a strong commitment to cosmopolitanism and progressive ideals in any other national culture- except perhaps in (19th century) France and (pre-2001) America.

By “De-Baathifying” Iraq in the wake of the US invasion, Bremer and his Neocon handlers such as US Undersecretary of Defense Dov S. Zakheim (a dual Israeli/American citizen…and an ordained ultra-Orthodox rabbi!) knew exactly what they were doing: they were opening the Pandora box of ethnic and religious strife throughout the Gulf region, thus securing a “long term strategic edge” for the state of Israel.

All this in the name of “liberty” of course and using disposable gentile kids from the American heartland to kill innocent Muslim civilians…

Leading Neocon Ideologue Says: “We Won’t Apologize for Iraq Failures. Apologies are for Maoists!”

Kanan Makiya (a former member of the Iraqi communist party turned Bushite fascist) is professor of “Near Eastern and Judaic Studies” (whatever that racist expression means) at Brandeis University near Boston.

Back in 2002, Makiya was one of the leading voices calling for the invasion and occupation of Iraq- in the name of “liberty” of course.

He had written books to that end: his pearls of Oriental-Marxist wisdom (my personal favorite is the one on the Iraqi masses readying to greet their American “liberators” with bottles of rosewater and baskets of pomegranates) were quoted ad nauseam in the pro-Israel press from Time Magazine to the Wall Street Journal.

Back then Vice-President Dick Cheney even said that Makiya’s “Republic of Fear” (a cheap anti-Baathist pamphlet subsidized by Israel’s Likud party) was required reading for anyone working in the Bush administration…

These days, Makiya seems to have lost his revolutionary enthusiasm, even if the Zionist zeal remains: he now blames both the Bush administration and the Iraqi people for the series of “failures” and missed “communication opportunities” that have led to the Iraq fiasco.

But Makiya and his Israeli handlers won’t apologize for their past propaganda plots that lied us into the Iraq quagmire.

And frankly they shouldn’t for “apologies are for Maoists” !!

Death of the Neocondustrial Complex?

The San Francisco Chronicle informs us that “Hapless Harriet Miers, would-be Supreme Court Justice, has been dredged from retirement as White House counsel to play a starring role in the U.S. attorney firing scandal. Miers, according to e-mails released as part of a congressional investigation, was at the center of the effort to fire the attorneys”.

These days, it seems like scandals of all sorts involving the Bushies are surfacing faster than the normal rate of absorption of Karl Rove’s spin machine!

You’ll find below another interesting article-this time from Fortune Magazine, a generally pro-Neocon midbrow outlet.

These guys have an interesting take on (what they view as) the new global division of labor: “innovation” seen purely as a function of defense spending, economic growth flowing from overseas consumer culture, and capital coming primarily from Middle-Eastern mines and oil wells:

“Tomorrow’s world may see the U.S. as the center of innovation and military strength, China as a center of population and economic growth, and the Middle East as a primary source of oil and capital”

To make a long story short: I’d say Iran (the regime), America (the regime), and Israel (the regime + most of the people) are actually allies in Iraq. That’s the BIG issue.

The sporadic skirmishes in South Lebanon, the “illegal” nuclear plants in Natanz and Bushehr, Ah-mad’s apocalyptic speeches, Bushmert’s oblique threats…etc all that is essentially a PR stunt destined to fool the gullible viewers of Al-Fox and Jazeera News.

Infidel Satanist Flag-Burners and Other Racist Clichés from the Land of Israel

They told police that during the last three months they had stolen mezuzot from the doorways of apartments in the city and burned them out of hatred for Jews and the Jewish religion.

Police said the group of youths, from both Jewish and Christian families, said they had also abused animals in "rituals" performed at an abandoned building on the outskirts of the city.”

Notice how racist clichés are constructed and perpetuated: the expression “a group of youths, from both Jewish and Christian [read: inferior gentiles] families” is meant to warn Israeli parents of the risks attached to letting one’s righteous child mingle with impure Goyim.

Then comes the accusation of “bestiality”- a staple of Hebrew racism found across the Pentateuch and The Talmud: “they had also abused animals in ‘rituals’”.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is defending the U.S.-backed Iraqi government and warns against attempts to undermine it. Trying to weaken the Iraqi government is tantamount to "treason for the Iraqi people and Islamic nation," Ahmadinejad said in a telephone conversation with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani Wednesday, according to the official Iranian news agency, IRNA.

In my opinion, to use madam Livni’s pseudo scientific “demonstrationist” parlance, something else “follows” from her assessment of the situation in Lebanon and the greater Middle-East: the Israel lobby known in Washington as “the Neocon” purports to fight Iranian influence in Lebanon by backing the corrupt Wahhabist government of Fuad Siniora…while they simultaneously massacre thousands of innocent Sunni Arabs in Iraq with the overt and covert help of their alleged Iranian “enemy”.

But at the end of the day, for America and Israel, Lebanon is just a minuscule sideshow, while Iraq is the big “prize”.

The Neocon and Iran being allies in Iraq means they strongly agree on the big picture even if they might sometimes quarrel on secondary issues such as Lebanon: as it has always been the case since 1948, Israel and Persia dream of subjugating the Levant and the Arabian Peninsula by “encircling” and repartitioning the Arabs into primitive Bedouin statelets.

In the meantime, the “Arab street” is absorbed by more important issues such as the highly vulgar beauty contests on Saudi-funded Lebanese networks, or the next round of Saudi-staged protests of “the faithful” against imbecile caricatures published in some obscure Danish province.

I mean like Gee, these people really have their priorities straight!

Bush Chides Iraq Over Executions…as Israel’s Iranian-Born Army Chief of Staff Resigns

Bush just said in an interview with PBS' Jim Lehrer that the horrendous execution of Saddam Hussein "looked like it was kind of a revenge killing [sic]… and I was disappointed and felt like they fumbled the -- particularly the Saddam Hussein execution".

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Minister has just announced he had delivered highly advanced anti-aircraft missile systems to Iran, even though his country had approved the new sanctions against Iran passed last month at the UN, which introduced restrictions on that country’s trade in sensitive defense technology.

Maybe that’s “kind of revenge time” for Russia after the multi-color-coded “revolutions” of Georgia and Ukraine?

Saddam Died Beautiful: A Special Eulogy

From Gary "War Nerd" Brecher's latest article in The Exile:

FRESNO -- A lot of office boys like to talk about "old school." I'll tell you who was old school: Saddam Hussein. Saddam died beautiful. It's the truth and you know it. Fact is, the longer we stay in Iraq the better Saddam looks. He never had a tenth of our money or weaponry but he did what we can't: kept that bag of snakes in order.

And what a way to go! Damn, did you see that cellphone video of his death? A bunch of Shia monkeys in ski masks woofing at him -- safe behind their masks, with Saddam handcuffed and under guard -- woofing like cockapoos at a pit bull heading for the Pound's death cell. And Saddam laughed at them, especially when they chanted the name of their pissant Imam, Moqtada al-Sadr. You can hear him on that jerky cellphone video sneering, "Moqtada?" And Saddam earned the right to laugh; he killed Sadr Sr. and kept Junior so terrified he didn't dare show his fat face until Saddam was gone and only the wimp occupiers were in charge.

Saddam told the ski-mask monkeys they weren't real men. And he had the right to say that too. Call him what you want, but Saddam was a man, a real man. One of the last. To me, watching that execution was like watching Planet of the Apes: a bunch of de-evolved primates killing the last man. Saddam looked like the 20th century in that overcoat and hat. He'd lost weight in prison. Never flinched, not once. You try that: going to the gallows with your blood enemies screaming insults at you. See if you can hold your bladder, never mind answer back as fast and calm as he did.

The 20th was a good century, bloody and unbowed, as the man said. We're going to miss it when it's gone. It's hanging on in places here and there at the edge of the office world, but we're doing our best to finish it off, and that hanging was a big step in that wrong direction.
Sure, Saddam was a killer. Don't you get it by now? In a place like Iraq, killing is how you run things. Sure, Saddam boosted his clan, his people; you think Sadr's goons are going to be any less vicious about boosting their tribe? They're not off to a very good start, promoting interfaith cooperation by torturing Sunnis to death and stacking their stinking corpses in old trucks dropped off at the nearest bus stop.

Blaming Saddam for being what he was is like blaming a rattlesnake for killing. That's how it lives, and it's what that Crocodile Hunter guy would've called "a bee-YOO-tiful ambush predator." Saddam was right for Iraq the way a Sidewinder is right for the Mojave. The NeoCons scared us by shaking his fangs in our faces, as if Saddam planned to bite every single commuter in LA, when all he wanted to do was stay alive and in power -- because those were the same thing for him -- in the Iraqi desert, where everything stings, sticks or bites. We may as well have gone on a crusade to wipe out all the snakes and spiders in the desert for being what they are. Only difference is, we wouldn't have lost 3000 soldiers that way.

Until we hooked him out of his burrow, the only thing Saddam had really done to America has hand us our most glorious victory since Inchon, in Gulf War I. He was like a lot of Third-World rulers: great at internal security but hopeless at conventional war. Like a rattler, he was totally harmless to anybody with the brains God gave a stray dog.

Meaning, anybody but Bush and Cheney. Those dudes remind me of this Darwin-Award winner who went to the hereafter on Lake Berryessa. He was fishing, noticed a rattler swimming beside his boat, grabbed it -- and when his fishing buddy told him to throw it away, this genius said, "Oh, no, it's harmless -- look!" and held it up to his face to show how harmless it was. The snake did us all a favor and took his genes out of the pool by biting him right on the nose, and he died before his buddy could power back to shore.

That was Saddam's last favor to us: showing us -- the hard way, no denying that -- how flat-out stupid our bigwigs really are. Bush is standing up at the podium every press conference with that rattler dangling from his nose like a mega-booger, yelping, "I'm fine, I'm fine!" but one of these days, and none too soon, he'll pass out and pass on, thanks to Saddam.

We did Saddam an accidental favor in return by giving him a rare old-school death. Maybe that's not important for some of you moral-types but it would be to my heroes. It would matter to John Paul Jones, it would matter to Alexander, it would matter to Subotai, and it matters to me. I wish I could have a death like that. Instead I'll die the same way you will, tubes coming out of my fat carcass, leaning over to watch the cardio beeper zig when it's supposed to zag, scared out of my head and ashamed to look down at this civilian belly hyperventilating its last chickenshit breaths.

Not Saddam. We may not have meant to, but we showed him the ultimate respect. And he deserved it. He's wherever the real men go; where Pancho Villa went, and Patton, and Richthofen. Not heaven, but someplace way, way better.

The Murder of Iraq and the “Check What They Say in Jerusalem” Rule

Just found this comment posted by Alberto Eleta of Panama on the comments section of CNN’s website:

“The war has ended for Saddam, but there's still a giant shadow he has cast over Iraq that will drive conditions deeper into a civil war for the domination and control of the political structure of the country, and all of this with the U.S. being in the middle.

Some leaders are more powerful after their deaths, Saddam is one of them, for he has drawn the U.S. into a long protracted war of attrition long before being deposed, and will make his bid the torch that will ignite the resolve of the Muslim world to refuse and reject the U.S. intrusion in the Middle East.”

My personal view on the whole matter is based on what I call the “check what they say in Yérushalayym” rule- when in doubt about the deep historical meaning of any event, listen to the comments coming from Israel’s rulers:

“Israeli Vice-Prime Minister Shimon Peres said Sunday that the execution of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein was "justice for history," Israel Radio reported.

Peres told the weekly cabinet meeting that Saddam, who had invited his own death, was a threat to life in the Middle East and the rest of the world, the reports said.”

Next thing you know Bush and Olmert will be saying that Khomeinism and other avatars of Iranian Islamic terrorism are kind of peaceful “pro-life” movements, eager to help us “democratize” Iraq!

What a sinister bunch…

Anyway, Saddam died his head high, unlike the masked Persian rats who murdered him: they will live in infamy for the rest of their (hopefully short) life.

Presidential Forecasting Made Easy: When the Puppeteer-in-Chief “Predicts” Bush’s Future Moves

Fascinating article with link to the recent interview of William Kristol on Fox News:

« Neoconservative pundit Bill Kristol believes that any increase of U.S. troops in Iraq must be a permanent increase to achieve success. [...] We pull back and we're in the same situation," the Weekly Standard editor said. "Bush will commit -- I believe, when he speaks in a couple of weeks -- to doing this. That this is a strategy for victory and that he's willing to do this for the remaining 2 years of his presidency."

Forecasting [sic] the president's plan for Iraq, Kristol adds, "I think [Bush] will say 'We can win. We have to win’ »

Of course, “predicting the future” is always easier when you can cheat: William Kristol and his Israel First friends at The Weekly Standard can “read the mind” of our president precisely because they can control his thoughts and manipulate him like the spineless puppet he is!

But this time around things won’t be as easy as in March 2003 for Israel’s Neocon “forecasters” as they will have to face strong opposition from the Pentagon’s top brass (the graduates of West Point and The Naval Academy are tired of working as gentile slave-soldiers for the kings of Israel and the princes of Saudi Arabia) as well as from an increasingly reluctant US Senate.

With free-thinking stalwarts such as Virginia’s Jim Webb, a decorated war hero with no love lost for the Neocon and Dick Cheney’s phalanx of Pharisaic traitors, Bush will find it very hard to use more American kids as cannon fodder for Israel’s imperial wars.

We’ll soon learn if America is still a free Republic, or if it has fallen for ever under the spell of foreign operatives working for Zion.

From Mighty Kingdom to Arabian Banana Republic: England’s Descent into the Neocon Pit

For once, I find myself in agreement with England’s Daily Telegraph:

“We have become like any other nation. No more can we tell ourselves that
British corruption scandals are qualitatively different from those of hot
countries […] The Government has ordered an abrupt halt to the inquiry into
allegations of hidden arms commissions [involving high-ranking Saudi princes],
just as others begin to suspect corruption […] Parliament is cheapened, and the
police have been called into Downing Street. That, more than the transformation
of his party, more than Scottish devolution, more even than Iraq, will be his
legacy.”

Reading the BBC’s website we learn that:

"[Lord Goldsmith] said the decision had been made in the wider public interest,
which had to be balanced against the rule of law." [sic]

The Saudi arms commissions scandal will offer future generations of moralists a particularly telling tale: the rulers of Saudi Arabia, a former British “client state” created by the Foreign Office can now break British law and show contempt for British courts with total impunity.

The Middle-Eastern puppet has taken control of its former master’s government: in this, as in many other respects, the Saudi are aping the reckless behavior of their Israeli friends- another crooked tribe from the marches of the old British Empire who now treats the UK and its government with utter disdain.

Some analysts fear that the execution of the Al Yamamah-BAE arms contract means “more weapons to kill in the Middle-East”… as if the porcine princes of the Arabian Peninsula had the intention to actually use those expensive weapon systems!

A more accurate description would be: more sophisticated weapons to be stockpiled in some rusty runway in the remotest corners of the Rub3 al-Khali desert while the Saudis’ Sunni Arab “brothers” are slaughtered every day that Allah makes in Gaza, Mossul and Bagdad…

But England and the West don’t fare much better than the Saudis: B-liar’s overtly reckless balancing act between “the wider interest” and “the rule of law” marks a new stage in the UK’s rapid descent deep into the Neocon pit.

“You are what you behold” said En gland’s most cherished poet William Blake, echoing the words of an ancient Israeli king: years of mingling with and accepting “disinterested” donations from corrupt Shemite princes from Najd and TeX-Aviv have turned England into some third-rate Wahhabi/Talmudic state, where corruption reigns supreme.

Be they Saudi, Israeli or British, the kings are now all naked: if the people of England don’t rise up and take control of their country soon, it will only mean that they deserve to live as slaves.

Ambassador Bolton Gone, Lebanon’s Neocon Prime Minister Next?

John “Yellow Cake” Bolton, a founding member of the Lutheran-Germanic branch of the Neocon cult has just tendered his resignation: this comes less than a week after the State Department’s most senior civil servant Phil Zelikow (member of the Hebrew branch of the same family) submitted his resignation to Condi Rice, and precisely one month after Herr Donald Rumsfeld (another member of the Lutheran branch) left the Pentagon in shame.

As I had said here a month ago, Big Moustache Bolton will always be remembered by future generations as “the madman who wanted to nuke “Baathist bastions” such as Paris and Baghdad, the chief architect of the Mossad-inspired “weapons of mass destruction” canard that was used to “sell the war” to a gullible press corps. […] During that most infamous period of our nation’s history, Rumsfeld and Cheney turned America into some kind of gigantic banana republic, a corrupt state controlled by a sinister assortment of Saudi princes, Israeli lobbyists and other Middle-Eastern agents.”

In Lebanon and Saudi Arabia, modern anthropologists can find many members of the Wahhabi/Islamic fundamentalist branch of the same mafia family who participated willfully in the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq while preaching a Pan-Islamic gospel of hatred towards “infidel pigs”- consistency has never been the forte of Neocon thugs be they Jewish, Christian or Muslim!

Today in Beirut, an alliance of secular opposition groups bringing together Shiites, Christians as well as moderate Sunni parties is trying to topple the government of Fuad Saniora, a sinister assortment of pro-Saudi Islamist thugs and notorious Christian neo-Nazis known as the “pro-Western March 14” movement.

This is what the Israeli Press has to say about Lebanon’s Prime-Minister, Fuad Saniora:

Backing for Saniora also came from France, Britain, Italy, Germany, and from
Arab leaders including Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Palestinian
President Mahmoud Abbas, according to a statement from Saniora's office.

These enlightened Israeli journalists don’t tell us if Prime Minister Saniora received a cheering message from President Karzai of Afghanistan or Marshall Pétain of France!

Reading the Israeli press (suddenly full of articles praising Lebanon’s “democratic” government!), we also learn that over the weekend, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak expressed concern that a military coup might take place in Lebanon.

A highly ironic statement if you consider that El Colonel-Presidente-for-life Mubarak owes his current job to a series of coups that brought his military clique to power 45 years ago… As they say in Texas, denial doesn't just run through Egypt!

In an article published in the rightwing Jerusalem Post earlier today, this is what Barry Rubin (director of one of Israel’s most prestigious think-tanks The Global Research in International Affairs Center) had to say about the situation in Iraq and ‘The Greater Middle-East’:

Yogi Berra was right. You might remember the great New York Yankees' catcher,
who was almost equally famous for mangling the English language. "It's tough to
make predictions," he once said, "especially about the future." … The
communities in Iraq will not reach any power-sharing compromise until one side
in the civil war has decisively defeated the other. Democracy, in the meaningful
sense of the word [sic], is not coming to the Arabic-speaking world [sic] very
soon.”

What the fuck? And that guy passes for an “expert” in Neocon circles! ... I mean how low can they go?

The Neocon rats of Washington, Riyadh and Beirut and their Israeli soul-mates are clearly in a state of “shock and awe”, there spin machine has dried up and real-life facts (as opposed to Fox News propaganda) are catching up with a vengeance: this is what any rational observer can conclude from the rapidly deteriorating situation in Iraq that “coincides” with this latest string of high profile resignations shaking the foundations of the Bush regime itself.

And then, they were two Neocon rats left: Condi Rice at State and Steve Hadley at the NSA.

With Rumsfeld and Bolton gone for good, it’s hard to imagine how Rice and Hadley (a former Rumsfeld protégé who now calls the great man’s last memo on Iraq “a laundry list” !) could survive the likely fall of Lebanon’s corrupt government: yes it’s gonna be bloody in Beirut, and the last Neocon Mohicans will soon join the “laundry bin” of history!

Good riddance.

President Bush on Collision Course with Pentagon and Baker-Hamilton.

President Bush and his Neocon handlers seem to be on a collision course with the Baker-Hamilton commission.

The New York Times informs us that:

Mr. Bush dismissed a reported decision by an
independent bipartisan panel to call for a gradual
withdrawal of troops. President Bush met with Prime Minister Nuri Kamal
al-Maliki of Iraq today in Amman, Jordan.

“I know there’s a lot of
speculation that these reports in Washington mean there’s going to be some kind
of graceful exit out of Iraq,” the president said during a joint news conference
here with Mr. Maliki, referring to the panel’s final report that is expected
next week. “We’re going to stay in Iraq to get the job done so long as the
government wants us there.”

Strangely, this renewed stubbornness (some would say Hebrew herbs-induced blindness!) puts Bush at odds with his own recently appointed Defense Secretary: Robert Gates clearly favors a relatively fast paced withdrawal from Iraq, as well the opening of direct talks with Syria’s secular Baath party and Iran’s mullahs.

Bob Gates and the Pentagon’s generals will find strong bipartisan support in congress for their Realist views, notably from Senator Jim Webb of Virginia- rumored to have been tempted to hit President Bush at a reception held at the White House earlier this week!

Meanwhile, Neocon rats are leaving ship like never before: Condi Rice’s most senior aide at the State Department, Dr Philip Zelikow, (who passes for a “moderate” within the Neocon mafia family…even though he has backed the invasion of Iraq on the grounds that it is “good for Israel”!) has tendered his resignation last week.

But President Bush doesn’t care: As Iraq plunges deeper into civil war, threatening to spark Shiite vs. Sunni sectarian wars across Lebanon, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia, the Commander-in-Chief says he won’t pursue the “dishonorable” path of withdrawal advocated by senior statesmen such as Baker, Hamilton and Gates who are desperately trying to salvage (what’s left of) American power in the Middle-East.

Iraq: UN Chief and King of Jordan Say Civil War Has Started...Almost!

There’s a very old Arabian tale of Persian origin part of the Kalila wa Dimna cycle.

It goes something like this:

A cunning fox has fallen into a deep ravine where he is trapped … and hunted by a bloodthirsty bear.

The fox knows well that he will eventually tire of running away from the big beast, and then his fate will be sealed.

Along comes a naive lion in search of glory: the fox manages to lure him into the ravine with promises of chivalrous victories.

The lion is trapped and has to fight the bear for the rest of his life, while the fox manages to escape…

Forget about Prince Metternich and Herman Kahn! I say this ancient Eastern fable is the real source of inspiration of Washington’s Neocon lobbyists: using the tragic events of 911 as a bloody bait, they have managed to lure our country into the millennial Iraqi ravine where America could well be trapped for decades to come…unless it hears the words of wisdom coming from courageous (read: not affiliated with the Israel lobby) patriots in the US Senate such as Jim Webb and Chuck Hagel.

This is what Senator Hagel wrote in the Washington Post yesterday:

“We are destroying our force structure, which took 30 years to build. We've
been funding this war dishonestly, mainly through supplemental appropriations,
which minimizes responsible congressional oversight and allows the
administration to duck tough questions in defending its policies. Congress has
abdicated its oversight responsibility in the past four years.

It
is not too late. The United States can still extricate itself honorably from an
impending disaster in Iraq. The Baker-Hamilton commission gives the president a
new opportunity to form a bipartisan consensus to get out of Iraq. If the
president fails to build a bipartisan foundation for an exit strategy, America
will pay a high price for this blunder -- one that we will have difficulty
recovering from in the years ahead.

To squander this moment would
be to squander future possibilities for the Middle East and the world. That is
what is at stake over the next few months.”

Meanwhile in Iraq, the war is spiralling out of control with Sunni Arab resistants gunning down US jets in the Anbar province and UN Chief Kofi Annan finally admitting that the country is “now almost in a state of civil war”… “Almost” is kind of a euphemism when one considers the hundreds of Sunni and Christian civilians massacred every week by Iran’s Sadrist militias while US troops courageously look the other way…

But, to their credit, the Pharisaic draft dodgers of Washington have nerves of steal: they’re still willing to “stay the course” in Iraq and beyond until the last gentile US soldier dies in the sands of Arabia or the steps of Central Asia!

Earlier today, Robert Kagan and Bill Kristol posted yet another jingoistic “strategic note” on the editorial pages of the pro-Israel Weekly Standard – Vice-President Cheney’s personal Pentateuch:

“So let's add up the "realist" proposals: We must retreat from Iraq, and
thus abandon all those Iraqis--Shiite, Sunni, Kurd, and others--who have
depended on the United States for safety and the promise of a better future. We
must abandon our allies in Lebanon and the very idea of an independent Lebanon
in order to win Syria's support for our retreat from Iraq. We must abandon our
opposition to Iran's nuclear program in order to convince Iran to help us
abandon Iraq. And we must pressure our ally, Israel, to accommodate a violent
Hamas in order to gain radical Arab support for our retreat from
Iraq.

This is what passes for realism these days. But of course
this is not realism. It is capitulation. Were the United States to adopt this
approach every time we faced a difficult set of problems, were we to attempt to
satisfy our adversaries' every whim in order to win their acquiescence, we would
rapidly cease to play any significant role in the world. We would be neither
feared nor respected--nor, of course, would we be any better liked. Our retreat
would win us no friends and lose us no adversaries.

What our
adversaries in the Middle East want from us is very simple: They want us out.
Unless we are prepared to withdraw, not just from Iraq but from the entire
region, and from elsewhere as well, we had better start figuring out how to
pursue effectively--realistically--our interests and goals. This is true
American realism. All the rest is a fancy way of justifying
surrender.”

Bush Says: In Lebanon, Fascists and Taleban-style Islamists Are the Only True Democrats

Yesterday, Pierre Gemayel the Lebanese minister of industry was killed in broad daylight by unidentified gunmen.

President Bush, Prime Minister Olmert and their Saudi Islamist friends were quick to blame this horrendous crime on Syria and Iran, even though there isn’t a single shred of evidence against these two countries. Maybe we could ask Dick Cheney and Mike Ledeen to fabricate a few colorful proofs with the help of the Israeli embassy in Niger- think nuclear “yellow cake”... hmm yummy! ;)

The Houston Chronicle tells us that:

Bush called Prime Minister Fuad Saniora and Amin Gemayel on Wednesday to
express his condolences.

"President Bush reiterated to Prime Minister Saniora the unwavering commitment of the United States to help build Lebanese democracy, and to support Lebanese independence from the encroachments of Iran and Syria," said Gordon Johndroe, a spokesman for National Security Council at the White House.

But, as usual, the Bush narrative is full of Texan horseshit: Pierre Gemayel isn’t simply the latest freedom-loving Lebanese “martyr” on the block, a promising junior minister fighting heroically to “free Lebanon from the axis of evil” who paid the highest price of all in pursuit of liberty.

In fact, Pierre Gemayel was a leader of The Phalange (“Al Kataeb” in Arabic), an overtly Fascist Christian group modeled after Franco’s Hispanic version of the Nazi Party called El Movimiento Falangista: not really the standard textbook definition of a “democrat”… even by the Middle-East’s notoriously low standards!

Unfortunately, the other members of Lebanon’s corrupt coalition government aren’t much better: apart from the neo-Nazis mentioned earlier, the other pillar of that government is made of a shady group of pro-Saudi Islamist technocrats called The Future Movement- a paradoxical appellation for a party advocating the strict application of laws dating from the 7th century AD.

The Future Movement is led by pro-Saudi MP Saad Al Hariri, a self-declared friend of Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz, the chief architects of the invasion of Iraq… And the spiritual leader of the party is the Grand Mufti of Lebanon, Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani, an Islamic fundamentalist bigot, who regularly hosts shows on Dar-al-Fatwah Radio (93.9 FM in Beirut) where Koranic “legal experts” often call for the elimination of “Christian pigs”, “Shiite dogs” and even “secular, deviant Sunnis”…all that while their fellow Sunni “brothers” are massacred on a daily basis in Baghdad and Gaza- but that doesn’t seem remarkable enough to attract their pious attention.

Islamic terrorists and Christian neo-Nazis: these are the people Bush and Olmert rely on to advance the cause of freedom in Lebanon.

Who said the Neocons aren’t always “intellectually honest”?

Debbie Livni, Israel’s flamboyant foreign minister, just gave an interview to reporters in Jerusalem: interestingly, she said Israel supports the “moderate” coalition government of Lebanon led by Prime Minister Fuad Saniura [recall: that’s the sinister assortment of Neo-Nazis and pro-Saudi Islamist thugs described earlier].

This is what she had to say:

"The news from Lebanon is another example of the kind of region, the kind of
neighborhood we are living in," Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said. "This
is between moderates and extremists."

Notice the use of the “tough neighborhood” metaphor used by Donald Rumsfeld back in March 2003 to justify the inaction of US troops standing idly while looters pillaged museums at will and burned Catholic churches and Sunni mosques across Baghdad.

This expression is actually a staple of American rightwing discourse: the south side of Chicago and the suburbs of Detroit are “tough neighborhoods” infested by Niggers and Ayrabz living lazily off welfare subsidies while honest (read: White) blue collars are working overtime!

Interestingly, Debbie Livni happens to be the daughter of Eitan Livni, a Polish-born member of the Irgun terrorist group, and one of the cofounders of the rightwing Likud party.

You may recall that Irgun was an openly Fascist Jewish organization, armed and funded by the Duce Benito Mussolini during World War II…

Iraq: Bush Mulls Shift to Michael Jackson Moonwalk Strategy

Now we can finally appreciate the depth of the dismay and uncertainty of the Neocon Cabalists of Washington: after having lied us into war with Iraq, the most secular cum westernized country in the whole Arab world on account of Saddam’s imaginary “weapons of mass destruction” (as opposed to say real depleted uranium shells and other “steel-penetrating nuclear arrows” used by the Israeli Defense Forces in Beirut and Gaza, but I’m digressing!), the Washington Post says that president Bush is now seriously considering a last ditch “strategic shift” in Iraq:

That combination plan, which one defense official called "Go Big but Short
While Transitioning to Go Long," could backfire if Iraqis suspect it is really a
way for the United States to moonwalk [sic] out of Iraq -- that is, to imitate singer Michael Jackson's trademark move of appearing to move forward while actually sliding backward. "If we commit to that concept, we have to accept upfront that it might result in the opposite of what we want," the official said.

The Pentagon official said this short-term boost could be achieved through three steps: extending the tours of duty of some units already in Iraq, sending other units there earlier than planned and activating some Army Reserve units.

The group concluded that such a step might be necessary because it is concerned that the continuing violence is undercutting the Iraqi government's credibility. "Folks increasingly realize that if violence can't be contained, the spiral downward will continue, the national government will lose the effectiveness it has . . . . and then all bets will be off," the official said.

How low can they go?

Notice the use of pseudo-rationalist “game theory” metaphors by the brilliant albeit unidentified Bush official…call it the modesty of genius!

It’s bad… so let’s try hard to make things worse…who knows? It might work as long as you believe the rules of classical/Christian rationality don’t apply anymore in our “post-911 world”.

From “Staying the Course” to “Winning the War” in Iraq: Avatars of Neocon Propaganda

For nearly 4 years, the Neocon thugs of TeX-Aviv used a symbolic catchphrase to deflect all criticism of their Iraq policy: “we will stay the course”.

“Staying the course” is of course a very powerful expression, with deep symbolic meaning in American Christian culture.

Interestingly, most Neocon intellectuals are actually atheists and/or of the Hebrew persuasion.

Their “communication problem” is that most US voters happen to be devout Christians, many of them Evangelical Protestants and Roman Catholics, who, unlike Mainline Protestants, Jews and conservative Muslims (whose theologies are based on the Hebrew Old Testament), turn to the New Testament and the stories of Jesus, Peter and Paul for moral guidance in times of crisis.

“Staying the course” comes from an epistle of Saint Paul where the authentic “Christian leader” is described as the determined captain who will refuse to change course during the storm…In that perspective, those who don’t stay the course are cowards, or even worse traitors, an accusation democrats and anti-war activists routinely faced in George Bush’s America.

But things are changing, and after the midterm debacle of this week, Israel’s PR experts decided to come up with a new marketing metaphor to sell their dirty war of aggression: this time though they’ve abandoned the mystical charms of Pauline eschatology for the martial virility of Winston Churchill circa 1940: “Victory in Iraq” is their new motto.

And, of course, no one is against “victory”, right? I mean except “traitors” and “Ayyrabz” of course!

This World War II parallelism is faulty on many accounts, notably the fact that America isn’t fighting a unified/centralized/mechanized/clearly defined enemy such as the elite Prussian officer corps or the Nazi party…

To paraphrase Jim Webb and Ernest Renan, America is actually trapped in the crossfire of a “five-sided argument that's been going on for 2,000 years", an untenable situation that only suits the interests of those who brought us into Iraq in the first place: namely the pro-Israel lobbyists of Washington (think Abramoff, Wolfowitz and other Pharisaic thugs) and their Persian Islamist friends in Teheran (think faux “Iraqi democrats” but authentic Iranian agents such as Ahmad Chalabi and Prime-Minister Nuri Al-Maliki).

Frankly, if members of the Sunni resistance want to kill Shiite collaborators or if bloodthirsty Pharisees want to kill Palestinians, or vice-versa, for centuries to come, well this is none of our business…

I think we should stand out of the way and let them settle their ancient disputes “mano a mano”.

Why waste the lives of thousands of American kids to defend the interests of countries such as Israel, Iran and Saudi Arabia? Countries whose leaders and people hate us, despise our culture and our religion…

For short: why try to help those who openly call us “inferior gentile goyim” or “dirty infidel kuffâr” ??

The Bush administration's faith-based initiative is reaching only a tiny percentage of the nation's black churches, most of which have limited capacity to run social programs, hampering the initiative's promise of empowering those congregations to help the needy, according to a study to be released today.The national survey of 750 black churches by the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies found that fewer than 3 percent are participating in the program, which funnels at least $2 billion a year in federal social services spending to religious organizations.

This program was geared toward the social conservative base of the Republican party and to traditionally Democratic voters who frequent church services. Exit polling, which is dubious at best, indicated that evangelical voters were troubled with the climate in Washington, D.C. The collapse of one-party rule in Washington will transform Bush's final two years in office and challenge Democrats to make the leap from angry opposition to partners in power.

George W. Bush has lost more than just control of a branch of government. He has wrought the end of the Republican Revolution. There are many political battles before the next election that can change the political landscape in dramatic ways. But, Bush and minions devoted to power have undone the principles of Newt Gingrich, the ideals of the Contract with America.

What seems clear, at this point, is that both parties will need to govern from the center -- to convince the center that the vision each party advocates is the best path for America. Let us hope that there is a convincing argument that proves very effective in swaying the voters and bettering America.

UPDATE: 1300 EST. Rumsfeld will step down, as announced by CNN. His position is untenable with the Democrats in control of the House and with many now ousted GOP officials having called for his resignation.

UPDATE: 1320 EST. Removing Rumsfeld and having President Bush speak today are both attempts to regain some footing after a tough loss for the GOP.

And the new state needed to “instill patriotic vigor” in the minds of its citizen…to convince them to give their life to the “fatherland” (‘la patrie’): for the first time in history, the central government sought complete control of newspapers and used journalists as PR agents for its wars of aggression.

“Green is the New Red”: Why Are We Applying Antiquated (Anti)Stalinist Thought to the Arab-Islamic World?

Michael Ignatieff is a media-savvy center-left “liberal” philosopher and political science guru.

He’s typical of that lost generation of Western intellectuals (think Paul Wolfowitz, Mike Ledeen), many of them former social-democrats and/or Trotskyites of Hebrew persuasion, who have joined the extreme far-right of the political spectrum…in the name of “the defense of liberty” of course!

Today, Mike Ignatieff is running for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada, and, according to the latest polls, he’s ahead of all other candidates: that doesn’t bode well for the future of Canada- more on that in a superb article written by my old blogging friend Sophie.

The Canadian Liberal Party was founded in 1861 by Wilfrid Laurier, a secular intellectual of French descent who turned a disparate assortment of small Quebec and Ontario political action committees into Canada’s main governing party.

Laurier stood for the secular ideals of humanism, moderation and modesty: effeminate “relativist” values in the eyes of Ignatieff and his Neocon friends who long for the macho “moral clarity” of the “warrior ethos” one finds amongst the virile settlers of West Texas and the West Bank!

The problem with Michael Ignatieff and other intellectuals turned politicians such as Pope Benedict and U.S. Secretary of State Rice is that they’re essentially experts in 19th century cum Cold War-era political philosophy, still obsessed with “Communist hubris”, believing “green is the new red” and that “Mecca has replaced Moscow”…

And they’re busy using their Soviet-era critique of statism and totalitarianism to analyze the dangers of ethnic and religious bigotry in the Post-Cold War, an amorphous era characterized by the massive rise of nationalist guerrilla insurgencies in the occupied territories of the Middle-East and Central Asia under the one-size-fits-all green banner of “Islamic Renaissance”.

Mike Ignatieff’s narrow-minded use of preconceived political categories flows from the same flawed “logic” as the Neocons’ “Churchillian” speeches comparing Saddam to Stalin or Hitler, and Chirac or Putin to Daladier and Chamberlain …

As Aristotle once said that’s simply an error in “faulty parallelism”, the classical mistake of feeble minds who like to find comfort in existing ideas, instead of using rational thinking to better understand new facts.

Lebanon’s “Pro-Western” Haririst Government: Taleban in Ties and Suits

During a carefully staged conference held in Beirut earlier today, the head of the parliamentary majority in Lebanon, MP “Sheikh” Saad Al-Hariri reiterated his pledge of allegiance to his Neocon and Saudi masters.

In many ways, the young Lebanese leader epitomizes perfectly the unholy alliance between Washington’s pro-Israel “amen corner” and Riyadh’s Islamo-Fascist “imam corner”.

As I have said repeatedly, this unholly alliance bringing together the Wahhabi Islamist thugs of the East and the pro-Israel puppet-politicians of the West should come as no surprise to those who know the history of monotheism, and the profound influence ancient Jewish Sicarism always had on Wahhabi thought and on Saudi Arabian culture and civilization.

During Hariri’s one-man show, Prime Minister Siniora (a former Tom Hagen-style consigliere of the Hariri clan) stood silently in the audience, lowering his eyes in shame- or was it submission to his bearded Bedouin benefactors? Allah only knows!

Quite tellingly, PM Siniora was flanked by two sinister sires: the goateed Saudi proconsul in Beirut, a certain Abdullaziz Khouja, and the Sunni Grand Mufti of Lebanon, Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani, a self-declared Islamic fundamentalist, who regularly hosts shows on Dar-al-Fatwah Radio (93.9 FM in Beirut) where Islamist “legal experts” often call for the extermination of “Christian pigs”, “Shiite dogs” and even “secular, deviant Sunnis”…

The above-mentioned radio station is financed by Lebanon’s “pro-Western” government, a corrupt bunch supported and funded by President Bush and President Chirac to the tune of more than 4 billon dollars per annum…

Why and how Washington would decide to use US taxpayers’ money to prop up an overtly racist and anti-Western government evades me.

But with the Neocons controlling both Congress and the White House, almost anything becomes possible- even the shameless advertising of the Wahhabi governments of Lebanon, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia as “friends of America and the West”!

In his latest article, Paul Craig Roberts, an ardent America-Firster and former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan Administration sums up the current situation quite succinctly:
“It is astounding that such dangerous fanatics have control of the U.S. government and have no organized opposition in American politics.”

The Real War: Lovers of Zion vs. America Firsters

Re: the Time magazine article mentioned in my previous post, my old blogging friend C.E., an uber-realist Republican centrist with no love lost for the Neocons and other “Lovers of Zion” (or "Hobebi Tzion" as they were called in Viennese circles circa 1890), said the following:

“We need this debate [on Iraq]. We need it to be brutal and honest. Right now, neither the left nor the right want the debate. They want to equivocate. There is no leadership in this country. Not in the meaningful layers of the political atmosphere. It's poll driven talking points, hammered out on Microsoft Word. Grammar checked to ensure a comfortable level of mistakes -- don't want to freak anyone out with something that sounds intelligent.”

Well, I have nothing to add, and nothing to subtract.

Iraq has become a focal object that allows us to “crystallize our thoughts” to use a neo-Platonic expression often used by President Bush and his Neocon pundit friends!

As Ralph Waldo Emerson famously said in his 1842 lecture at the Boston Masonic Temple, “the light is always identical in its composition, but it falls on a great variety of objects, and by so falling is first revealed to us, not in its own form, for it is formless, but in theirs;
in like manner, thought only appears in the object it classifies.”

Clearly, Iraq has become the political object par excellence, a reflecting mirror that sheds a crude light upon the sad state of America’s governing elites: the Neocons have turned Washington into a playground for corrupt Likudnik lobbyists and other mischievous Israeli spies operating with impunity within the highest echelons of the White House and Congress...

Why Pope Benedict is Wrong About Islam (Part 2): Saint Aquinas’ Natural Law and Saint McLuhan’s Law of the Media

Re: my previous post on Pope Benedict’s sterile “anti-Islamic” polemic, my old blogging friend C.E. (who generally defends the Vatican’s stance) said the following:
“Well, I was being quite ironic.”

To which I replied: Yeah. I know.
But I think this was a mild, sympathetic kind of irony favorable to the Supreme Pontiff!

C.E. went on to say the following: “I do find it troubling that the Muslim reaction […] does not address the Pope's point that reason is necessarily superior to violence.”

Well, personally, I don’t.

See, when you come across a hurt, bleeding feline, and you start pouring acid on its “open, festering wound” (to borrow an animal metaphor frequently used in Neocon circles), it should come as no surprise if the beast starts raking its claws in anger…

This is precisely what classical Catholic thinkers such as Thomas Aquinas call “The Natural Law” which refers to those instincts and emotions common to men and animals, such as the instinct of self-preservation!

As I said earlier, Pope Benedict might be an expert in the fields of Lutheran ethics and Slavonic cosmogony, but he knows virtually nothing about Arab-Islamic culture and civilization.

And, he doesn’t come across as being particularly media savvy either: unlike brilliant papal communicators such as Pius and John Paul who were familiar with professor Marshall McLuhan’s analysis of modern mass media, Benedict Ratzinger comes across as an old-fashioned bookish monk afraid of the reflection in the camera eye…

Clearly, this doesn’t bode well for the future of the Church.

Why Pope Benedict is Wrong about Islam and Islamism…

“Muslim Leaders Assail Pope’s Speech on Islam” says a New York Times article published earlier today:

“Today, criticism began pouring the pope’s way. The 79-year-old Benedict has
taken a more skeptical, hard-nosed approach to Islam than did his predecessor,
John Paul II, who died in April 2005.”

It is true the West needs to engage Islam firmly: crushing Islamic terrorists such as the Chechen and Bosnian rebels and their Saudi-backers, while helping secular, modernist Muslim leaders such as Saddam Hussein of Iraq and Muhammad Mahatir of Malaysia is clearly the best policy…

Unfortunately, Vladimir Putin, Pat Buchanan (a rightwing Roman Catholic) and Jean-Pierre Chevènement (a secular center-left Catholic) are probably the only Western politicians who (openly) propose to pursue such as balanced foreign policy vis-à-vis the Islamic world: it’s no coincidence they are constantly vilified and ostracized by the all-powerful Israel lobby.

On the other hand “mainstream” (read pro-Israel) Western politicians such as Bush, Clinton and Blair have always pursued the opposite approach: Baathist Iraq, the only (relatively) secular regime in the whole Middle-East was deliberately destroyed by President Bush, and replaced by an allegedly “democratic” government controlled by two Shiite terrorist groups armed and trained by the Islamic Republic of Iran: The Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq (known by its more benign acronyms of SCIRI or SAIRI), and the Daawa Party (The “Party of Islamic Predication and Holy War” in Arabic…).

In the MENA area, Bush and Cheney have openly and wholeheartedly supported Saudi Arabia, a totalitarian country that gave us the Taleban regime and 911, not to mention the fact they have built and bankrolled thousands of radical Islamic schools across the Middle-East, South Asia and the UK to preach their gospel of hatred.

This unholly alliance bringing together the Wahhabi Islamist thugs of the East and the pro-Israel puppet-politicians of the West should come as no surprise to those who know the history of monotheism, and the profound influence ancient Jewish Sicarism always had on Wahhabi thought and on Saudi Arabian culture and civilization.

Pope John Paul II knew better. He knew that American foreign policy was wrong: this is why he always kept cordial relations with the more modernist Muslim regimes of Iraq and Malaysia while discreetly combating Saudi-Wahhabi influence in sub-Saharan Africa and in the immigrants’ slums of Western Europe.

This is the reason why he repeatedly invited Iraq’s Tariq Aziz (a Roman Catholic Baathist intellectual) to the Vatican, and supported the French-Russian initiatives of late 2002 and early 2003 to avoid the Iraq war by all means.

Unfortunately, his successor doesn’t seem to know much about Islam and the Middle-East…As a matter of fact, Pope Benedict made two major mistakes in his “anti-Islamic” speech the other day:

1) He condemned “Islamic holy war” without acknowledging that the most racist and intolerant concepts in Islamic theology such as “Jihad” (“holy war”) and “Kâfir” (“Infidel) actually come from the Hebrew Pentateuch- part of what the Vatican calls “The Old Testament”, a book revered by Christians the world over…

2) He praised the “words of wisdom” of Manuel II Paleologus, a corrupt 14th Century Byzantine emperor who hated Islam and Muslims…and whose “civilized” cum decadent generals lost battle after battle to the less refined but far more sober Muslim officers of Anatolia: not a very moral (nor very glorious) image of Christianity to convey to the 1.4 billion Muslim men and women urbi et orbi!

In March 2003, the only (relatively) secular regime in the whole Middle-East was deliberately destroyed by Herr Bushmert, and replaced by an allegedly “democratic” government controlled by two Shiite terrorist groups armed and trained by the Islamic Republic of Iran:

Death of a Genius: Why Bushmert Won’t Be Missing Rémy Belvaux…

Yesterday, one of the most brilliant European directors committed suicide in a shabby house in the eastern suburbs of Paris: Belgian-born Rémy Belvaux was only 38, and he had directed a single movie.

I don’t have time to tell you why I believe “C’est Arrivé Près de Chez Vous” (“Man Bites Dog” in the lackluster English-dubbed version) is probably the best French-language movie of the past 30 years.

Suffice it to say Belvaux was able to condensate in a single character, “Ben the killer” (played by Benoît Poelvoorde), all the nastiness, violence and vacuity of our society.

Ben is mean, misogynist, racist, lazy, asocial, alcoholic and deranged- not to mention the fact he speaks French with a heavy Wallon accent.

Yet he’s a charming character.

Probably because he would make a bad G.O.P. Christianist…and an even worse Saudi Wahhabist or Israeli Pharisee!

Today, President Bush seemed intent on proving that Jane Bradley’s analysis is right on the money: addressing the Military Officers Association of America, Bush said that Al Qaeda's vision was to create a “unified totalitarian Islamic state that can confront and eventually destroy the free world.”… and that Bin Laden had declared Iraq “the capital of the caliphate.” [sic]

Tellingly, in that highly surreal speech, Bush insisted that “We know what the terrorists intend to do because they've told us”.

Hmm…Frankly, I sometimes wonder if it’s the other way round!

Problem is that you don’t kill an idea with clusters bombs: read Gary Brecher’s luminous article in the Exile to understand what tough cloth Hezbollah and their numerous followers are made of.

Destitute Shiite Muslims make up more than 40% of the Lebanese population: that would be like say “flushing out” the Irish working class from Massachusetts and New York circa 1890!

As I said earlier, the Siniora government and its Saudi protectors sincerely thought Cheney, Bolton & Co. would be happy to satisfy their monarchic good pleasure and get rid of those pesky Hezbollah lumpen-prolétaires for them.

Siniora (and president Chirac and King Saud with him) probably thought this could be done in a week time, with “surgical strikes” targeting exclusively Shiite villages in the south of the country: THAT was a tragic mistake.

In real life (i.e. outside of Arabia’s air-conditioned palaces), no one will do a dirty and expensive job on your behalf for free…!

"Be careful what you wish for, lest it come true” comes to mind...Ironically, this is an ancient Indo-Iranian proverb that the West imported from Persia long time ago- together with polo, chess, Satan and other ancient Asian niceties.

Olmert Tells King Saud: We Won’t Do Your Dirty Job for Free…

The Story of the Thuggish Government and the Weeping ‘Rentier’ State

My old blogging friend C.E. The Republican Realist wrote a razor-sharp assessment of the “Franco-American” draft resolution currently being debated at the UN:

“But this is diplomacy as a tactic in a war. Warfare these days has appropriated many venues that it never before occupied: garage door remotes, CNN, diplomacy, and .pdf files. That's a partial list and the process has been ongoing for some time. It seems that Lebanon (with the coaxing of Hezbollah?) is trying to present an alternative to the DOA Franco-American resolution.”

But, frankly, the UN resolution they’re cooking in New York is far more American (>90%+) than say “French” (less than 9.99%) or Botswana-ean.

A relatively easy way to gauge the ideological/linguistic origin of any (draft) UN resolution is simply to count the number of “Gallicisms” and other “Latinisms”: and (unlike say varied UN resolutions on topics such as Bosnia, Sudan…etc.) there are very few of these semantic indicators in the Neocon-engineered text currently being discussed in New York- a draft to which an ailing Chirac probably only gave his ex-post blessings…

Why you may ask?

Why would France abdicate (what’s left of her dwindling) influence in the last remnant of its former MENA empire (North Africa was lost long time ago to a conglomerate bringing together Exxon, Chevron, Boeing and the Pentagon)?

The answer is quite straightforward: K.S.A., Iran’s real archenemy- as opposed to fake foes such as Israel, Pakistan and Botswana!

With the barrel of oil at $ 85., the French (and most governments on the face of the earth for that materialistic matter) would sell their daughters to the power-hungry princes of Riyadh.

And the “moderate” [??] Saudi rulers and their pliable “pro-Western” Haririst friends in power in Beirut want Hezbollah crushed at any price.

The spoiled 'rentiers' kids of Arabia are used to be surrounded by cohorts of slaves who always do their bidding: Lebanese cooks, British engineers, Pakistani chauffeurs, Moroccan escort girls…etc.

That’s why the Saudis sincerely thought President Bushmert would be happy to satisfy their monarchic good pleasure and flush out “pro-Iranian” scum from the royal playgrounds of Beirut and the Casino du Liban!

Thomas will never be a “Neocon Demiurge” or a “Wahhabi Jihadist” precisely because he is pure human sincerity at work (and that entails a certain amount of “critical negativity”…without which men become soulless machines).

Which is precisely what makes the man terribly touching, and eloquently desperate.

And hence burningly sensible.

He is the “Underground Man” 1800 years before Dostoyevsky’s ‘existentialist’ (anti)hero.

We owe him much much more than many people think.

Thomas is a free man. He is everything we have left in a shattered world run by thieves and tyrants.

He stands sad-eyed in the midst of the wreckage in Beirut, right after the latest round of Israeli bombardments and says:

Sweet Lily-Belle has a superb post on Israel’s surprise hacking of Hezbollah's Al Manar TV station that took place earlier today. It seems a distinguished Tzahal “Arabist” appeared on the terrorists’ captured screens for a few minutes and said the following to his “captivated” Mohammedan audience:

“Hassan [Nasrallah, Hezbollah’s charismatic leader] sent men to fight the Israeli army, an army of steel, without preparing them. Stop listening to patriotic hymns for a moment…Reflect and bring your feet back to the ground.” [sic]

Hmm … A case of Levite levitation, maybe?

High Priests of War Turning Men into Animals

My old Tejano Central libertarian friend at http://kampfeblog.blogspot.com/ tells me that rabbi Daniel Gordis, a (formerly moderate) prominent American-Israeli clergyman has his own “rationalization” for the massacre of 5 unarmed UN observers, the killing of 600+ Lebanese civilians (most of them women and children), and the methodical destruction of 90% of Lebanon’s transport and energy infrastructure:

“This is a different kind of war, and an old kind of war […] It explains why, even as the air raid sirens go off across the country, and may eventually start their wail in Tel Aviv, too, as people dash across streets, panicked, trying to find the nearest bomb shelter, no one complains about the government. No one’s complaining about the amount of time it’s taking the air force to put a stop to this [sic]. It explains why all over this city, advertisements on bus stops have been replaced with a photo of an Israeli flag and the phrase Chazak Ve-ematz – ‘be strong and resolute’ (Moses’ words to Joshua in Deut. 31:7).

Even the people who’ve lost family members, who are interviewed while still overwrought with grief, have no complaints about the government or the army. ‘Finish this job,’ they effectively say. ‘We’ll stick it out’ [...]

On TV the other night, one of the news shows started off with a brief comedic episode. It showed two guys, looking and acting Israeli to the hilt. One of them was speaking in a heavy caricatured Sephardic North African accident [sic], spitting toothpicks as he carried on, telling his friend, over and over and over, ‘mi-po ani lo zaz. This is the only place where Jews can be safe, he insisted. This is the place we must stay. From here, I’m not moving.’ And then the camera panned back, until gradually, you realized that the background you were staring at was the London Bridge, and the Tower of London”

Ha Ha Hilarious indeed!

Nothing like a poor taste ethnic joke to cheer up the troops, and this one even comes fully-equipped with the proverbial Oriental Jewish immigrant with a “caricatured Moroccan accent” reminiscent of primitive Ayyrabic parlance!

At first, rabbi Gordis’ overtly racist remarks made me want to puke…

But one shouldn’t despair, for as long as there’s a little sparkle of humanity left in the hearts of men of good will, no matter what their creed or color, we can still hope to stop this barbaric war:

Israel’s Massacre Feast at Qana

Ooops, they did it again!

After having massacred 4 unarmed UN observers, killed 500+ Lebanese civilians, destroyed 90% of Lebanon’s transport and energy infrastructure, Yahweh’s glorious sicaries decided to revisit one of their most famous works of martial art: the 1996 Qana massacre.

Today, in the early hours of the morning, Tzahal’s noble knights rode over Qana in their shining US-made, US-equipped, and US-paid fighter jets.

It was Sunday, the day of worship in gentile Christian culture.

And Qana is the place where this “weird Jesus cult” started when the beloved King Herod ruled over Israel.

His modern successor, Prime Minister Olmert, probably couldn’t resist the subtle symbolism: razing Christianity’s birthplace on a Sunday…Yeah that would be grand! The faithful few in Washington would love it!

It only took a few minutes for the IDF’s Air Force to massacre 55 people (mostly women and children) on that sunny Sunday in that small southern city…

They did a great job, were very fast, very neat and very clean!

Quite ironically, Ms Rice was also concerned the Israeli armed forces might run out of ammunitions and banned weapons used liberally against Lebanese civilians such as cluster bombs and phosphorus-enhanced shells:

The “Israel Defense Forces Cares about Civilians” Canard; Reflection on Hebrew Sophistry...

Many apologists of the Bushmert regime have pumped up their shameless propaganda campaign in the airwaves and on the internet since the start of Israel’s war of aggression on Lebanon.

One of their main arguments is that “Israel is sincerely sorry for the civilian deaths” that occur only because, for the sake of self-defense, its otherwise compassionate soldiers have to target “Hezbollah positions which are located intentionally within populated towns” [sic]

But that’s simply just another easily debunk-able lie churned out by Israel’s collaborationist amen corner in the US…and in Saudi-Arabia - the Wahhabi Islamist regime of Riyadh having sided squarely with Israel while Lebanon is being razed by the IDF.

The reason why this is a lie is quite straightforward: Lebanon is a mountainous nation made of relatively homogeneous/isolated population clusters, neatly separated by valleys, rivers, canyons…etc.

For the sake of argument, assuming that all of Lebanon’s Shiites are “pro-Hezbollah” (which in itself is a gross oversimplification), some of whom might gladly give shelter to pro-Iranian revolutionaries, well the ONLY parts of the country where you can find Shiites be they “civilian sympathizers” or Hezbollah guerillas are the following:
- South/South-East
- North East
- West Beirut’s suburbs (known as “Al Dahiyeh” in Arabic)

The truth is that more than a third of towns and villages targeted by the Israeli Air Force are actually located in exclusively Christian areas - Yahweh’s glorious army made a point of bombing both Roman Catholic and Byzantine Orthodox areas, thus proving its attachment to the development of Christian ecumenism!

This is the reason why, after having remained silent for more than a week, the generally “pro-Western” Council of Lebanese Bishops (no fans of Hezbollah as you can imagine) issued a strong statement condemning both Israel and America’s support for Israel’s savage war of aggression.

Even (formerly) “pro-Israel” ultra-rightwing Lebanese activists have condemned Israel’s blind bombardments of civilian areas with no link whatsoever to Hezbollah or Iran …

My blogging friend Bashir Beyck of Beirut draws our attention to a surreal add for a little restaurant in “small town America” serving pork chops scented heavily in anti-Ayyrab spices.

The add say: “Little Pigs BBQ Sandwiches – Safest Restaurant on Earth: No Muslim Inside”.
Guess you really can’t bar some people from being stupid…

Ironically, long before there were any Mohammedans in America, the first people who refrained from the consumption of pork meat were actually ultra-fundamentalist White Protestants who wished to emulate the “morality” of the Hebrew Old Testament.

Dr John Harvey Kellogg (inventor of the famous Corn Flakes) was one of these Biblical fanatics: he was a lifelong member of the 7th Day Adventist cult- a rightwing Protestant sect that more recently gave us preachers of hate such as David Koresh and his phalanx of bloodthirsty Texan Sicarii…

Dr Kellog called for abstinence from pork, shellfish, and other foods proscribed as "unclean" in the Jewish Bible as well as from alcohol.

Funny how rightwing observant Protestants and Jews have actually a lot in common with the people they hate!

Of Mohammedan Bogeymen and Bearded Ayrab Terrists: Why Zarqawi Had To Die

Earlier today, Gen. George Casey commander of US occupation troops in Iraq held a “joint press conference” with the Quislings of Baghdad to announce the elimination of Abu Musa’b al-Zarqawi, “the terrorist leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq”.

Casey had a nice “story line” ready to sell, full of heroic subplots involving choreographed strikes by American GI’s and “new Iraqi” soldiers working hand in hand like virile “allies” are supposed to, and backed by a series of neat (too neat to be true) artifacts such as the deceased public enemy numero uno’s framed photographs and magnified fingerprints appearing on the projected slides of an elaborate PowerPoint presentation.

As my old blogging friend Sophie pointed out, this smelled a rat: the fact that the announcement of Zarqawi’s death coincided precisely with the long-awaited (more than 4 months…) nomination of Iraq’s new security ministers (Defense, Interior and NSA) only added to our legitimate suspicions…

And what can we possibly say of the striking resemblance between the pictures of Zarqawi’s inanimate corpse and those of Latin America’s most “subversive” revolutionary, Ernesto Che Guevara who died in similar conditions 40 years ago?

Pervasiveness of the proverbially “aggressive” Arab-Hispanic ethnic and cultural “traits” threatening the integrity of our beloved Western civilization?

More Debunked Neocon Propaganda: Lebanon’s “Baathist Mass Grave” Said to Be Ancient Ottoman Cemetery

You may recall that in the days following President Bush’s “March 14 2005 Cedar Revolution” that “freed Lebanon from years of Syrian occupation” (the Syrian occupiers in question having been “invited” to conquer all of Lebanon in October 1990 by none other than a certain George H. Bush…), the Neocon/Saudi controlled press in Washington and Beirut started to run graphic stories depicting the “horror of mass graves found in eastern Lebanon” where Syria’s “Baathist thugs” allegedly abandoned the corpses of their innocent Lebanese victims.

Back then, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld said they were “not surprised” for this only confirmed the “totalitarian nature of Syria’s Baathist regime”, and echoed (a little too neatly) the sudden apparition of other mass graves “discovered” coincidently in the middle of the Iraqi desert by intrepid albeit “embedded” US journalists…

Well, it turns out it was all fake:
“A burial site in eastern Lebanon originally believed to be a mass grave for victims of Syria's military presence is actually a graveyard dating to the 17th century, a Lebanese prosecutor said in a statement published Wednesday.
Syria ended its nearly three-decade military presence in Lebanon last year. The remains of at least 28 people discovered in December in the Bekaa Valley town of Anjar ranged from 50 to 350 years old, Prosecutor General Saeed Mirza said.
None of the remains were dated after the year 1950, the statement said, adding, "there is no evidence that any crime was committed.”

In Iraq, as in Syria and Lebanon, the easiness with which the Pentagon’s professional propagandists were able to fool a complacently hapless press corps tells us a lot about the sorry state of our once independent media: with a few notable exceptions such as Seymour Hersh, Maureen Dowd, and Justin Raimondo, the quality of US journalism has gone down the drain.

The Pentagon’s “Worst Case Scenario”: Taleban Rule in Pakistan, Nukes in Iran, and Mayhem in Iraq….

Back in the early 1960s, rightwing ideologue Herman Kahn, father of the “futurology” movement, dedicated friend of Israel, and a pioneer in the use of scenarios and “advanced statistical modeling” in military strategy said that:

“History is likely to write scenarios that most observers would find implausible not only prospectively but sometimes, even, in retrospect. Many sequences of events seem plausible now only because they have actually occurred; a man who knew no history might not believe any. Future events may not be drawn from the restricted list of those we have learned are possible; we should expect to go on being surprised”

And Herman was damn right!

.From Baghdad to Basra nothings seems to be going according to plan, but our Pentagon-based Neoconometrician masters can’t be bothered with “defeatist” thoughts of self-criticism: after all, they still have a grand mission to accomplish…

Reuters reports that Taleban fighters have now taken control of Pakistan’s northern Waziristan province:

Somali Islamist Leader to President Bush: American Neo-Colonialism is the Problem!

I have no sympathy for reactionary Islamic fundamentalists be they “moderate” quietists as the “pro-American” rulers of Turkey and Saudi-Arabia, or “anti-American” armed activists a la OBL & Co.

This being said, one has to admit that many Islamic fundamentalist leaders tend to be well-educated and soft-spoken characters, often more sophisticated and, quite ironically, more “westernized” than the illiterate Western-types one finds these days in our Texanized White House!

This is the case of Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, spiritual leader of Somalia’s increasingly successful Islamist insurgency- that our hapless Pentagon bureaucrats are trying to contain using the “tried and tested” war-by-corrupt-proxy strategy they have pioneered in Indochina circa 1960.

I just watched Sheikh Aweys’ first interview on Al-Jazeera TV: the man comes across as being sharp, witty and media savvy. Beyond the usual Neo-Hambali rhetorical figures, he insisted on the “hypocrisy” of America’s pro-democratic stance in the Middle-East and the Horn of Africa, where Washington systematically sides with unelected repressive regimes that terrorize their own people.

The goateed Sheikh of Mogadishu also made a fascinating remark on the change of status of America in the Arab-Islamic psyche: in a reference to President Wilson’s defense of the right of self-determination at a time when most Muslim countries were occupied, colonized and pillaged by France and England, he said that “America’s stand vis-à-vis our region was very different at the beginning of last century…which earned her the respect and sympathy of most Muslims”.

This pro-American bias (and its corollary anti-European stance) lasted until the mid-1960s’ when the Wilsonian Protestant Arabists at the State Department started loosing ground to their often pro-Israeli “secular” rivals.

But the general belief in America’s “Wilsonian goodwill” persisted in “the hearts and minds” of hundreds of millions of Arabs and Muslims until Bush and his Neocon handlers decided to invade Iraq and wreak havoc across the Middle-East.

This substantial shift in Arab and Muslim public opinion vis-à-vis America can’t be ignored: in the days of President Wilson, Muslims represented roughly 10% of the world’s total population…today, a quarter of mankind firmly believes in Allah and its ultimate Prophet...

Neocon “Charity”: Taking the Reconstruction of Iraq as a Model

I just came across a hilarious entry in the Comments section Jeff Uber-Neocon Goldstein’s blog:

"Jeff, I’m sorry to hear about your financial troubles. As a progressive, I’ve decided to help you out by donating $200. As a gesture of good will, I’ve decided to do it in a way consistent with your Republican beliefs. Taking the reconstruction of Iraq as my model, I did the following:

I hired some heavies to rob your house. They found $190 in the kitty above the fridge, and $10 on your bedside table. I thought it was only fair to use your money to pay them (seeing as you are the beneficiary here), so that leaves $160 for you.

Unfortunately, we broke your gate on the way out, so gave $90 dollars to my friends to fix it for you. They haven’t got around to it yet. I hear the company has since been disbanded, so I’m not sure we’ll be seeing that again. Oh well, these things happen. At least they painted it a nice colour.

Who Are the ‘Neocons’?

Several MEM readers have asked me to write a short post summarizing some of my earlier analysis of the Neocons- that appeared notably in the “Comments” section of my blog:

so « voilà » as they say in the language of the fries formerly know as French!

Neo-conservatives are not only “Kantians with cruise missiles” as an old-school conservative historian once said, or “Socratic thugs” or “pro-Israeli Trotskyite turncoats”, even though there is a certain degree of truth to each of these characterizations- based on the alleged influence of Neo-Platonic “Straussian” philosophy on the Neocon movement.

I think what is by far the best definition is found in the famously empiricist pique of Irving Kristol:
"A neoconservative is just a liberal who got mugged by reality. A neoliberal is a liberal who got mugged by reality but has not pressed charges."

This definition implies that somewhere down the road [mid-19th century Germany or US campuses circa 1965] “traditional” [some might say “Old European”] liberalism became disconnected from “reality”- the “real world” being construed as a combination of Calvinist/WASP common sense, the eternal laws of Supply and Demand, the need for virile Emersonian “self-reliance”, the primacy of macho military power, blah blah …

This alleged decay of classical liberalism is generally presumed to have been caused by the debilitating influence of “collectivist predators” and other despicable “enemies of freedom” such as Michel Foucault, a “post-modernist” pinko homosexual of French extraction, or even worse Edward Said- a Marxist intellectual and an Ayyrab one too!

Once they had decided to leave the liberal camp (around the late 1960s’), most “neoconservatives” had to choose which part of the non-liberal political spectrum they would inhabit: they had ample choice within existing varieties of American centrist and conservative schools of thoughts…

Tellingly, most of these former leftwing activists chose the ultra-nationalist far right.

The Neocons were clearly enthused with the proverbial “zeal of the converts”, a self-intoxicating sentiment that pushed many former members of East-Coast Trotskyite and/or socialist leaning Jewish youth movements such as Wolfowitz, Feith, Ledeen & Co. to adopt an ultra-conservative stance on most domestic and foreign policy issues, often deliberately to the right of the Henry Ford/Joe McCarthy brand of American fascism…

In the process, to show their unwavering loyalty to their “new friends” from the racist far right in Washington and the South, they had to criticize publicly their “ex-friends” from the New York liberal milieu- a practice reminiscent in many ways of the show trials organized by the sinister House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) throughout the Cold War.

This treacherous attitude is perfectly summed up in the title of Norman Podhoretz’s memoir: “Ex-Friends: Falling Out With Allen Ginsberg, Lionel & Diana Trilling, Lillian Hellman, Hannah Arendt, and Norman Mailer”.

Woody Allen makes fun of it in his hilarious 1969 movie “Take the Money and Run” where he shows a rightwing police officer named Miller, presented as the author of “My Mother is Red”, a book denouncing his pro-communist parents to the FBI!

“FEMA Says It's Ready For Hurricanes, Experts Worry”!

Through a Reuters report we learn that:

“With the Atlantic hurricane season three weeks away, U.S. emergency officials battered by Hurricane Katrina say they are ready, but independent experts worry that problems - including unwieldy bureaucracy – remain”

At a time when menacing hurricanes are set to enter the Gulf of Mexico, this dispatch sums up perfectly the widening gulf between the Bush government and the increasingly weary “reality-based community” of (independent) experts and (non brain-Foxed) citizen.

In a now famous October 17, 2004 interview, a senior (but anonymous) member of the Bush administration (said to be none other than Herr Donald Rumslfeld) said the following to the New York Times’ Ron Suskind:

“[He] said that guys like me were "in what we call the reality-based community," which he defined as people who "believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality." [...] "That's not the way the world really works anymore," he continued. "We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors”

“History’s actors”…Yeah sure…recent events tend to lend some credibility to that seemingly outlandish statement…

That is if you believe that “actor” is a synonym of “comedian”!

Zacharias Moussaoui, Miss Peggy the Swine and the Neocons’ Pound of Flesh

The jury rejected the government's case to have Moussaoui executed, deciding instead he should spend life in prison.

And rightwing bloggers and pundits are greatly offended by the court’s alleged leniency: the Neocons and their “conservative” friends feel cheated of the proverbial “pound of flesh” President Bush had promised to give them.

“The death penalty has a meaning, and it isn’t vengeance” writes Peggy Noonan in the columns of the pro-Israeli Wall Street Journal:

“Excuse me, I’m sorry, and I beg your pardon, but the jury’s decision on Moussaoui gives me a very bad feeling. What we witnessed here was not the higher compassion but a dizzy failure of nerve. […]

How removed from our base passions we’ve become. Or hope to seem.

It is as if we’ve become sophisticated beyond our intelligence, savvy beyond wisdom. Some might say we are showing a great and careful generosity, as befits a great nation. But maybe we’re just, or also, rolling in our high-mindedness like a puppy in the grass. Maybe we are losing some crude old grit. Maybe it’s not good we lose it”

Hmm…Peggy the swine and her Neocon Kermit friends will always like a little bestiality…

And their “deer” enemy Zach Moose was the perfect scapegoat: I mean the animal is both French AND Mohammedan- too bad he isn’t also black, gay and communist!

How an inoffensive (except maybe for himself) unstable fool eager to get his proverbial 5 minutes of glory through the grandiloquent use of outlandish statements and other “jihadist verbiage” can attract the attention of so many “conservative” minds shows the extent to which conservatism, once the ideological home of our nation’s virile and rational minds, has become of sub-ideology of sensationalist pussies and other Neocon carpetbaggers…

I’ve always wondered how so many sane citizen were easily fooled into believing that a half-demented Moroccan prole from the eastern suburbs of Paris was indeed a “global terrorist mastermind” ready to play kamikaze with the WTC.

But then again, millions of our fellow Americans were brainwashed into believing that Saddam Hussein, by far the Arab world’s most secular and Westernized politician, was kind of a later days bloodthirsty Saracen on the verge of conquering the infidel pastures of Wyoming!

France: from Imperial Grandeur to Cultural Mediocrity and Economic Malaise

The Guardian has an interesting article on President Chirac's plan "to restore French pride", in which the French government (together with Germany) will spend hundreds of millions on developing a European answer to Google called "Quaero," which means "I search" in Latin or something.

“…Quaero has been a pet project of Mr Chirac's for some time. In his new year speech at the Elysée Palace, he spoke of the need to "take up the global challenge posed by Google and Yahoo!".

But his plan is not without its sceptics. The French satirical newspaper Le Canard Enchaîné has mocked the project's funding as paltry in comparison with Microsoft or Google. Mike Lynch, chief executive of Autonomy, a Cambridge-based search software firm, wrote to the Financial Times calling the plan "a blatant case of misguided and unnecessary nationalism" and warning that by the time Quaero is developed the market will have moved on...”

The supreme leader of the Republique always had a penchant for ridiculously jingoistic subsidized “industrial plans” as this latest government-funded folly comes after several equally useless projects such as Chirac’s grandiloquent endeavor in the realm of TV news:

“After the election in 2002, he promised to challenge CNN and the BBC with a 24-hour news station, a "CNN à la française", which would counter the Anglo-Saxon world view and spread French values. The station, CII, with some €70m a year in public funding, is due to be launched in December”

To use former French president V. Giscard d’Estaing’s famous phrase, the French are having a hard time adapting to a world where their ancient nation has become simply a “puissance moyenne”, an average power the size of say Spain or Poland.

Actually, France had already lost its superpower status circa 1870 with the successful unification of Germany and the rapid industrialization of formerly agrarian large nations such as America and Japan.

But ruthless colonial rule in the Middle-East (that contributed to the emergence of a violent strain of Islamic fundamentalism) and South Asia (that laid the groundwork for the Vietnam war) gave France’s great power status an extended lease on life until 1939 when Germany finally shattered Paris’ vainglorious imperial dreams.

From 1945 until 1989, General de Gaulle and his successors were able to keep the illusion of French power alive by playing Moscow against Washington and vice versa throughout the Cold War: the fall of the Berlin wall and the ensuing Gulf war of 1990 during which France eventually sided against Iraq, its only major Middle-Eastern ally and an important outlet for French products and services, spelled the end of the illusion of Gallic grandeur and plunged that once glorious nation into a protracted period of intellectual apathy and slow economic decline pierced only by brief bouts of patriotic fervor such as president Chirac’s plans for a French CNN, a French Google, a French … etc.

The New Face of American Conservatism: Marxists Thugs, Fascists and Drug Addicts

Rush Limbaugh, the Bush regime’s leading talk radio propagandist, finally turned himself in to the Palm Beach County sheriff on a warrant for fraud as part of a deal to resolve a lengthy inquiry into whether he illegally obtained painkillers and other opiates.

How ironic, that “before his own problems with painkillers surfaced, Mr. Limbaugh had regularly told listeners that drug users should be jailed”…and, shall I add, how symptomatic of the moral malady afflicting many of our country’s self-proclaimed “conservatives” whose behavior be it on a personal or political level goes against all the historic tenets of conservatism: moderation, decency, self-reliance, mistrust of big government centralism and avoidance of offensive wars and foreign adventures.

The infiltration of the Republican Party by rogue pro-Israeli Marxist activists calling themselves “neo-conservatives” was facilitated by a phalanx of lunatic talk radio fanatics such as hatemonger-in-chief Rush Limbaugh: for them, the “conservatism of yore” had to be thrown once and for all into Karl Marx’s “dustbins of history”.

As I have said in one of my earlier posts, narrow-minded Marxist ideologues be they Soviet communists or American “neo-conservatives” have always despised the “internal contradictions” of traditional Western conservatism (rooted in Europe’s Christian and secular Classical heritage) which they believe to be “old-fashioned” and “formal” (sic). Just like their role model comrade Lenin, these sophisticated thugs prefer the joys “dialectical creativity” even when this means pursuing high policies over the dead bodies of hundreds of thousands of disposable Arab and Muslim peasants… as another Neocon Israeli idol once said: “you simply can’t cook a good omelet without cracking a few eggs”!

But, to use their own vocab of choice, the Neocons themselves are now faced with the “internal contradictions” of their misguided Mideast policy based on a blind belief in accelerated democratization at gunpoint coupled with a systematic scorn of Arab and Islamic public opinion…

Today, faced with the tragic consequences of the Iraq quagmire and the rapid resurgence of jihadi Islamic fundamentalism from the Sinai peninsula’s posh and bobo resorts (the latter being closer to David War-Is-Peace Brooks’ heart but I’m digressing) to the inner cities and slums of Pakistan and Morocco that show the abysmal ineptness of President Bush and his gang of incompetent Neocon handlers, once cannot help recalling Brent Scowcroft’s prophetic warnings on Iraq in 2002…and the scorn with which his cautious conservative stance was received by Bush, Cheney & Co.

Back then, Neocon ideologue Mike Ledeen summed up the Bush view in the columns of The National Review:

“It's always reassuring to hear Brent Scowcroft attack one's cherished convictions […] He fears that if we attack Iraq “I think we could have an explosion in the Middle East. It could turn the whole region into a caldron and destroy the War on Terror...”

One can only hope that we turn the region into a cauldron, and faster, please. If ever there were a region that richly deserved being cauldronized, it is the Middle East today. If we wage the war effectively, we will bring down the terror regimes in Iraq, Iran, and Syria, and either bring down the Saudi monarchy or force it to abandon its global assembly line to indoctrinate young terrorists. That's our mission”

It seems that the Jaafarian republic of Persia is next on the hit list.

America and Israel as Recruitment Agents for Jihad Jobs

Nothing seems to stop the dismal litany of bad news coming from the Middle-East: earlier today, as Israel’s new “centrist” (a modern Hebrew euphemism for neo-fascist probably inspired by turn-of-the-century German political parlance) government was sworn in, a Palestinian suicide bomber killed nine people along with himself in Tel Aviv, and the Pentagon was forced to recognize that the month of April will be one of the most deadly for US troops since the start of the war (these guys seem to be uninterested in keeping track of the number of Ayyrabz dying every day- probably for fear of loosing “focus”).

Three years after the conquest of Baghdad, the situation looks rather bleak, as radical Islamic fundamentalism seems stronger than ever with heinous mobs burning churches (not to mention Christians and women) in Cairo, Jakarta and Islamabad, and with potentially explosive Sunni vs. Shiite sectarian tensions now spreading to Syria, Lebanon, Pakistan and the entire Gulf region.

I guess that’s what Neocon Neros such as Mike Ledeen call “creative chaos” whatever that means... “Chaotic cretinism” would be a more fitting appellation for the highly incoherent foreign policy of President Bush and his incompetent Neocon handlers!

Like him or not, Saddam Hussein was a truly modernist, Westernized Arab head of state who protected women’s rights and enforced affirmative action programs in favor of Iraq’s tiny Christian minority. President Reagan and “Old Europe’s” foreign policy establishment both viewed the Iraqi Baath party essentially as a strong secular bulwark against Persian-Khomeinist fundamentalism and Wahhabi-Afghan terrorism.

The Israelis and Washington’s Neocons thought otherwise: now US marines and Israeli civilians have to deal with the rise of terrorist organizations such as Hamas and the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) which their own governments have deliberately brought to power…

Blaming the Victims: On America’s New Black and Arab Uncle Toms

The Neocon’s favorite feminine “Uncle Tom” figure these days is undoubtedly La-Shawn Barber, a self described “former liberal and current renegade supporter of conservative ideals” which is a pretty accurate description…if you define “conservatism” as an ideological brew combining Billy Graham’s bigot activism and Attila the Hun’s moral ethics, or vice versa for that matter!

Yesterday, she wrote a particularly racist and sexist post that made it to the Washington Post’s media notes section (Ron, thanks for drawing our attention to this):
“As I mentioned before, black men raping white women is much more common than the other way around, but when was the last time a football team canceled its season? Other college rapes, that is, black-on-white rapes, don’t get a fraction of coverage, such as this one or this one. Remember thuggish Lawrence Phillips, a black football player who had a penchant for beating up white women? The media barely reported those stories.
And what about “hate crimes?” Although whites are the most likely hate crime victims, the only so-called hate crimes that get blanket coverage involve black victims and white perpetrators. By the way, this is what I think of “hate crimes.” ”

I’m sure La-Shawn Barber’s KKK handlers are quite proud of her for she is now to blacks and feminists what professor Fouad Ajami is to Arabs and Mohammedans: an immoral Neocon drone preprogrammed to always lay the blame on his own community in the name of “critical objectivity” and “independent thinking”… funny how this sounds hollow, for underneath the fake libertarian veneer lays a masochistic propensity to systematically blame the victims be they black, brown or yellow…all in the name of “freedom” of course!

More generally, it seems to me that Neocon and “Christian” Coalition-type commentators raise an interesting moral issue here: is a poor African-American stripper (or even worse a “lowlife black prostitute”…) essentially guilty in advance because of what she is- as opposed to say being admitted into a level playing field where her testimony would be treated with the same reverence (or skepticism) as that of a Church-going rich WASP kid from Duke?

Wahhâbi Islamic fundamentalists and other (Dixie and Israeli) followers of the Old Testament would probably say the “morally bankrupt” lady is guilty until proven innocent.

It seems to me the whole point of our civilization is to give straying souls like her the chance of a fair trial…

It’s déjà vu all over again: following the “success” of their Iraqi ventures, the Neocon Neros of Washington are now toying with the idea of expanding their flourishing business eastward into the highly promising Persian market.

Frankly, I wonder what they’ve been smoking lately, and I simply can’t conceptualize the fact that George Bush’s followers still believe the Pentagon-produced infomercials showing complacent cum generously breasted Baghdad girls throwing rosewater, lukums and champagne at our troops on Apr 9, 2003! ... How on earth can’t they see Teheran’s mullahs were the only winners here?

As for the Neocon’s belated anti-Persian posturing, it should be taken for what it is: just another hollow gesticulation from a lame-duck administration trying desperately to rebuild the Arab/Iranian geopolitical balance that it had deliberately destroyed in the first place...

And those ungrateful Ayyranians should be mighty satisfied and thankful for el Chimpresidente nukular de la White Casa knocked their secular archenemy for them and handed them (via their SCIRI cum Da’awa party Islamist stooges) two thirds of Iraq on a silver plate!

Plus the Persians got all that for free: future generations of infidel American taxpayers will generously pick the estimated 2 trillion dollars tab- George W’s contribution to the Koranic jurisprudential concept of “Jiziyah”…

HAMAS, ISRAEL, AND AMERICA’S “GREAT GAME”…

Now that the new Hamas-dominated Palestinian government has been sworn in, many analysts and Middle-East experts are trying hard to assess the “true nature” of Hamas…

But there’s no need to look up their official website, or try to interpret Ismaïl Haniyyeh’s latest double-entendre cryptic press conference- always short on substance and long on pseudo-paradoxical witticism such as “we will never recognize the wicked Zionist entity, but on the other hand we’re willing to sign a peace treaty with our beloved neighbors” or vice versa or something.

The truth is easy to find: Hamas is just the local Palestinian branch of the “Muslim Brotherhood” (MB) a neo-Hambali totalitarian movement that gave birth in the past 80 years to a multitude of local organizations and franchises from Al-Qaeda’s South-Asian “Jihâdi” activists to the more presentable “quietist” Islamist technocrats now ruling Turkey and knocking politely on Europe’s (rightly closed) door.

Throughout the Cold War and even until the late 1990s when Bosnian and Albanian Islamist terrorists received generous shipments of weapons and ammunitions from NATO bases, Washington and Tel-Aviv have systematically helped, funded and trained legions of Muslim Brotherhood-type Islamist fundamentalists in order to fight the (much inflated) threat coming from the perceived enemy du jour be it “international Marxism” or “Baathist Pan-Arabism”, or even worse, “terrorist organizations” combining both ideologies such as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine led by US-educated Palestinian and Jordanian Christians such as George Habash and Nayef Hawatmeh…

But, as the Neocons have “won the Cold War”, or so they think, the Prophet’s crescent seems to have replaced Lenin’s sickle as the instrumental incarnation of evil in the minds of paranoid Pentagon planners and on the TV screens of America’s living rooms: the Neocons are now desperately trying to close the Islamist Pandora Box they had deliberately opened in the first place.

Saddam vs. Amerikka: Chronicle of a Neocon Show Trial (Vol.2)

After having become the main recruiting agent for Osama Bin Laden in South Asia and the Middle-East, the Neocon clowns of Washington have succeeded in turning the former Iraqi president into an Arabian folk hero who’s not afraid of confronting America and the corrupt Kurdish judge in charge of overseeing the media circus that is his trial.

It was quite a spectacle to see Saddam take control of the courtroom, and roar in anger at the US-appointed judge: even though he spared no menace, Chief Justice Raouf Abdel-Rahman was unable to intimidate the aging lion of Baghdad. Saddam Hussein was raging with spirit and fight, willing to defend Iraq at all cost against the foreign occupiers who had come from afar to subjugate, torture and pillage in the name of “democracy”.

Saddam: “What pains me most is what I heard recently about something that aims to harm our people…My conscience tells me that the great people of Iraq have nothing to do with these acts.”

Judge Raouf: “Shut up!”

Saddam: “I am the head of state”

A Five Points Plan for Lebanon

Members of the elite Druze regiment of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) even have their own “syncretist” flag combining Hebrew and Durzee theological symbols… No wonder Druze war criminal Walid Jumblatt got the red carpet treatment in Washington and was effusively greeted by a phalanx of Neocon grandees!

Jumblatt met Secretary of State Condi Rice yesterday ostensibly to discuss peaceable topics such as “regime change” in Syria and neo-colonial Western interference in Lebanese affairs:

2. Nullify the ill-acquired SOLIDERE shares held by « generous Saudi investors », and give back their full property right to the lawful Lebanese landowners who were illegally expropriated by Rafic Hariri and Gen. Ghazi Kanaan in 1994

3. (Re)send to jail notorious war criminals who have massacred tens of thousands of innocent Lebanese civilians from 1975 to 1990: top of the wanted list is a certain Walid J. « Beyck » who, after having supervised the ethnic cleansing of the Chouf area, was rewarded with the “ministry of refugees” by Hariri père so he could better siphon out all the money earmarked for the orphans of Damour and Souk el Gharb- it’s kind of as if Adolf Hitler had been nominated « minister of death camps survivors » back 1945 ! but I’m digressing…

4. Adopt a new Gerrymander-free electoral law based on the sound principle of the “mid-size district” that would allow for a free and fair parliamentary representation of the people of Lebanon i.e. the precise opposite of the illegal 2000 electoral law imposed at gunpoint by King Fahd Ibn Saud and General Hafiz el-Wahech

5. Proceed with the election of a new president only AFTER transparent parliamentary elections are held across the country, under the supervision of European Union and UN observers

It should be clear by now that Lebanese Prime minister Fuad Saniura and majority leader MP Saad Al-Hariri are Wahhabi wolfes in pseudo-modernist clothes: they wear clean-cut ties and suits but, deep inside, they’re just like the Taleban- or even worse for that matter.

Hariri and Saniura were actually both seen several times (on Saudi Arabia’s Channel 1 TV) attending Friday prayer services at Jeddah’s Central Mosque, where the residing Hambali preacher regularly calls for the “extermination of idolatrous Shiite and Christian dogs” or “Tassfiyatt al kilâb al mushrikeen al matâweelah wal-nasârah” in Saudi parlance!

As long as they don’t RENOUNCE PUBLICLY (preferably on Saudi TV) the intolerance and perversions of Wahhabi theocratic fascism, the leaders of Lebanon’s ruling Future party will remain under suspicion in the West and in Lebanon itself.

Opposition leader Gen. Michel Aoun is right to say that the gullible March 14 dupes are shooting on the wrong target: they focus their ire on hapless/impotent figures such as president Lahoud and a weakened Syrian regime on the brink of collapse, which is no threat to Lebanon’s sovereignty anymore…while blindly ignoring the mounting threat posed by the totalitarian Islamist regime of Saudi Arabia and its Harirista “Imam corner”.

Today, the Lebanese public has finally seen the true face of Saad Al-Hariri’s commercialist brand of Wahhabism-Lite based on Riyadh’s violent neo-medieval interpretation of Koranic Law, and backed by corrupt Western leaders such as Dick Cheney and Jacques Chirac…

In an ironic twist, yesterday, following US ambassador John Bolton’s forceful steering of the UN towards a public condemnation of Lebanon’s Hizbullah and other pro-Iranian terrorist organizations, there was an avalanche of articles in Washington and Tel-Aviv celebrating the great moustached macho man’s diplomatic prowess…

One should recall that John Bolton has been the administration's point man on weapons of mass destruction: in the run-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, he was particularly aggressive in denouncing Saddam's allegedly un-satiable appetite for “yellow cake”, “bacteriological chowder”, “nuclear soufflé” and other deadly delicacies supposedly “supplied to Iraq by greedy French arms makers”!

Too bad Bolton supported the illegal invasion of Iraq, for that country was the sole counterweight to Iranian Islamic fundamentalism, and the only (relatively) secular country in the whole Middle-East: many members of Saddam’s government such as Tariq Hanna Aziz and 30%+ of high-ranking civil servants were actually European-educated Catholics whereas Christians made up less than 4% of Iraq’s total population…

But Bolton, Bush and their Neocon cum Israeli partners in crime favored a “free and democratic” Iraq ruled by “progressive” Shiite fundamentalists such as Prime-Minister Al-Ja’afari, a bearded Islamist thug of Iranian descent who claims to be an admirer of both Donald Rumsfeld and Grand Ayatollah Khomeini…Go figure.

The Bush Canard about Al-Qaeda’s

Plans to “Shatter the American Way of Life”

Yesterday, the man they call the videoconferencing el Presidente delivered his long-awaited Veterans Day speech on the fight against terrorism at Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania- see link to official Federal News Service transcript below:

This turned out to be a fascinating speech full of true-blue Trotskyite/Noecon clichés about the eventual collapse of the Islamic Al-Qaeda “system” from the burden of “its internal contradictions” and the firm presidential belief that its leaders will soon be “joining the dustbins of history”…beyond the irony of listening to a right-wing Republican leader using 19th century vintage Marxist metaphors, Dubya’s delivery was clearly below (his own already sub-par) personal average, and the rehearsed hurrahs sounded less enthusiastic than usual- maybe because Karl and Scooter were busy elsewhere and didn’t have enough time to prepare properly for this staged show of martial masculinity.

Anyway, the following 2 points in Bush’s speech caught my attention as they perfectly capture the essence of “Neo-conservative” Pharisaic propaganda:

1) “…the militant network wants to use the vacuum created by an American retreat to gain control of a country, a base from which to launch attacks and conduct their war against non-radical Muslim governments” [sic]

This type of talk is particularly racist and offensive: 1.4 billion Muslims around the world will be glad to learn that the US government has officially segmented them into two broad categories: “Radical/Al-Qaeda types” and “Non-radical Muslims”

2) “…our troops fight a ruthless enemy determined to destroy our way of life”

That’s an outright lie, which has been propagandized on a massive scale since September 11th 2001 by Wolfowitz, Perl, Libby, Sharon, Cheney & Co.

As veteran Middle-East experts such as former senior CIA officer Michael Scheuer have said repeatedly, this canard about “Bin Laden’s alleged desire to shatter the American way of life” was (and still is) the ultimate justification of the invasion of Iraq…simply because it was “market-tested” extensively by the White House and proved to fly well with focus groups and folks in the heartland.

I’m fed up with all these self-proclaimed Lebanon “experts” avidly commenting excerpts from the Mehlis report as if it were some kind of exercise in exegesis.

OK: some Marxist/Syrian “Mukhabarât” thugs might have contributed to the killing of one of their former protégés… and, after all, so what?

Rafiq Hariri was a notorious Saudi-sponsored fraudster and embezzler who had stolen billions from the Lebanese government’s coffers with the complicity of resident Syrian Gen. Ghazi Canaan who skimmed his infamous “khamseen” percent commission for the big boys back in Damascus and Qardâha.

Faux “sheikh” Hariri was most likely killed in a settling of accounts between rival Syrian mafia gangs: that type of crime happens every now and then in Palermo and in the south side of Chicago without eliciting the appointment of a German special prosecutor or impromptu meetings of the UN’s Security Council!

Contrary to the tall tales peddled on Fox News, Future TV, Al-Nahar-al-Wahhabist and other Saudi and/or Hebrew controlled media outlets, “sheikh Rafiq” was no “disinterested defender of freedom”
